Apartment Warming

Ryan and I hosted our apartment-warming party last night. It marked a transition in our lives from "strangers" to "strange urban-dwellers." A random group, representative of our new life here in Seattle, showed up for the event: Some co-workers, fellow AmeriCorps VISTAs, and new neighbors. It was so wonderful to finally feel more at home. I'm convinced that there is magic in housewarmings.

Other news: Ryan got a job! Woohoo! On Friday Ryan found out that he got a temporary position at the Washington Mutual headquarters in downtown Seattle. Although I can't imagine being excited about working for a bank, Ryan really looking forward to it...It is amazing how different we are, and how good that is for our relationship!

My work is going well. My boss and I were intervied by the local Somali TV station on Friday night. The young Somali men who were producing the show assured us instant fame and fortune. "Every Somali in America will know who you are," the told us. Apparently it was true, at least in part. We had several people call into the show to ask us questions on live TV. Quite an experience!

Not too much new news to report. Communion this morning at Quest Church was incredible. I often forget how mystical that sacrament is, and how my identity is shaped by The Church. It was so good to be a part of that. Another way that I feel "at home" here in Seattle...

All of you are missed. Please stay in touch.
